Marvelous Morning at Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic Academy on Pink Shirt Day

It was a marvellous morning virtually presenting to grade three to eight students today at Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic Academy in Toronto.

I am grateful to Mr. Martil, the School Principal, for having invited me to present on Pink Shirt Day.

An engaged audience of wonderful students asked me great questions. Teachers graciously facilitated during the question period, and I really appreciated them very much for it.

Exit Tickets were completed by students following my presentation.  Below are excerpts from some of these:

Today, I heard / saw …  “Giselle Gaylie”

This made me think …  “To be my self not some one different”

Now, I wonder …  “How the other people feel after the talk with Giselle Gaylie”

Today, I heard / saw …  “Today i have heard Giselle talk about God and Jesus”

This made me think …  “This made me think i should get even closer with God and Jesus”

Now, I wonder …  “Now i wonder if God helped Giselle a lot”

Today, I heard / saw …  “today i heard that i should not take peoples hateful comment to heart. because that doesn’t define who i am but it defines who they are.”

This made me think …  “this made me think that i am truly who God defines me to be.”

Now, I wonder …  “now i wonder how does people who give hateful comment feel.”

Today, I heard / saw …  “Today I heard that Giselle did not let any bullying get to her. I saw that Giselle had to press a red button to speak.”

This made me think …  “This made me think, Wow even though she has a disability she still does not let any bullying get to her.”

Now, I wonder …  “Now I wonder how she does not let the bullying get to her is it because she is used to it or maybe something else.”

Today, I heard / saw …  “i heard that we control our challenges”

This made me think …  “yeah! i want to pick and control my challenges. she’s right.”

Now, I wonder …  “how can i control them though?”

Today, I heard / saw …  “Giselle Gaylie had been bullied”

This made me think …  “that you should let it go”

Now, I wonder …  “How we can improve on being happy”

Today, I heard / saw …  “I heard about Giselle’s story”

This made me think …  “This made me think that Giselle is a very courageous woman because she is able to speak in front of people and tell them her inspiring story.”

Now, I wonder …  “I wonder if I can have as much courage as Giselle did.”

Today, I heard / saw …  “I heard we should go to people who care and don’t treat us different for the problems you have and I saw a lot of people helping her to learn how to manage with her problem.”

This made me think …  “if someone who was good and is rude now, if I should not be their friend.”

Now, I wonder …  “how did it feel to have problems since you were born.”

Today, I heard / saw …  “I Heard That She Did not let Anything Get To Her if She Got Bullied”

This made me think …  “She made me think how she became A motivational speaker.”

Now, I wonder …  “I wonder How The computer can read her mind.”

Today, I heard / saw …  “WHY U LOVE EACH ANOTHER NO MATTER HOW THEY LOOK”

This made me think …  “THE SPEECH WAS TO INSPIRE PEOPLE TO LOVE EACH OTHER”

Now, I wonder …  “SHE GAVE US THE SPEECH BECAUSE ITS PINK SHIRT DAY”

Today, I heard / saw …  “Today I heard Giselle say to never let negative comments get to you and make you feel bad, and that it is not you who is the problem, it is the other person who is not very nice.”

This made me think …  “This made me think that bullies should never hurt your feelings, even if their comments are very mean.”

Now, I wonder …  “Now, I wonder, if you stand up to that bully, will they go away? Or will they keep coming back to you and bully you even more?”

Today, I heard / saw …  “Giselle is a motivational speaker that has a disability but yet she still goes on living her life and ignoring all the bad”

This made me think …  “Sometimes i don’t appreciate what i have but seeing what she goes through and still loves herself it made me want to be better and appreciate what GOD blessed me with”

Now, I wonder …  “How she went through all this bullying but yet still stays happy shocks me”

Today, I heard / saw …  “Today I heard about Giselle Gaylie teaching us to be be nice to other and help people if they are getting bullied.”

This made me think …  “This made me think to help people, do good stuff and make sure everyone is treated the same way.”

Now, I wonder …  “What will happen when some one like you get hit with a big hard ball”

Today, I heard / saw …  “i saw giselle gaylie”

This made me think …  “how much schools did she go to ”

Now, I wonder …  “how many people did she meet”

Today, I heard / saw …  “I saw that everyone can be a good person.”

This made me think …  “Giselle Gaylie can be so brave.”

Now, I wonder … “How many schools does Giselle Gaylie go to.”

Today, I heard / saw …  “how hard it was for Giselle.”

This made me think …  “that I shouldn’t let bully take me down.”

Now, I wonder …  “idk”

Today, I heard / saw …  “I heard and saw that Giselle was disabled ( I think I am not sure ) but her disability did not stop her from being a public speaker I heard in her speech that said “some people think that I can do normal stuff like other kids or people but I can if I put my mind to it” to be honest I don’t think that she said it like that but something similar”

This made me think …  “It made me think that sometimes you are unstoppable and if you put your mind to it you can succeed”

Now, I wonder …  “Now I wonder how other people do what they do best”

Today, I heard / saw …  “how somebody can stick up for themselves for being different then everybody else.”

This made me think …  “That I have to ignore what other people think about me and be happy for the way I am .”

Now, I wonder …  “how life would have been in there was no difference in this world because if everybody was the same life would be boring and not fun.”

I am so glad to have inspired these awesome students this morning.

I truly feel honoured to have been invited by Mr. Martil … Thank You!
