An Inspirational Blessed Morning at Lester B. Pearson Catholic School During Kindness Week
It was an honour to be asked to be a Guest Speaker at Lester B. Pearson Catholic School by Mme Medyk and Mr. Torres, the Principal, for Kindness Week. Upon arriving at this blessed school this morning, November 14th, 2023, I was warmly welcomed by them both.
In the gymnasium, I was very fortunate to have Mr. Matthews, a grade eight teacher, assisting with the projector, sound system and the microphones. He was truly, very kind, helpful and insightful, which was extremely appreciated during the setup.
Shortly after 9:00 am, I was welcomed by a terrific young group of Youth Faith Ambassadors, YFAs. They helped throughout the morning in so many wonderful ways. They helped set up the gymnasium for the students and teachers. Once all the grade five to eight students had entered and were seated, a couple of them eloquently introduced me to the audience. During the Question and Answer period, they shared the wireless microphone, so students could ask me questions. The same two YFAs, that introduced me, said some very beautiful closing remarks and presented me with a glorious bouquet of the most sunlit yellow orchids, and snow white roses nestled amongst other flowers and greenery. It was spectacular bouquet, and the gift was very much appreciated. Later this same morning, these extraordinary YFAs even collected the Exit Tickets from students. They were everywhere, just being their amazing selves. I certainly appreciated all they did to make the morning such a great success.
While in the gym, pictures were taken of me amongst this blessed and wonderful audience. Once students started leaving and before leaving the gymnasium, I had my picture taken with the wonderful Mr. Matthews. While in the main foyer of the school, I had the pleasure to have my picture taken with Mr. Torres, who praised my public speaking presentation. It’s always wonderful to receive positive feedback!
Mme Medyk’s heartfelt initiative, introduced the idea, of having me as a Guest Speaker, to Mr. Torres, who happily consented to it. I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Mme Medyk, back on November 23rd, 2018, when I had the pleasure to present at St. Veronica’s Elementary School. It was wonderful to see Mme Medyk again today; and I was truly touched by her invitation. That’s the biggest form of flattery, to be asked to come back!
Before I left the school, with my gear in tow, (my stander, my wheelchair, etc…) as I was walking out, I saw Mme Medyk with her class about to go out for recess, so we took some pictures. Moreover, once the students went outside both Mme Medyk and Mrs. Paolella, a grade eight teacher, escorted me out helping us take everything to the van. How’s that for KINDNESS? Pretty Awesome!
Everyone, I met today went the extra mile, and I will always cherish the heartfelt kindness experienced at Lester B. Pearson Catholic School.
