Exceptionally Blessed Morning as a Guest Speaker at Divine Mercy Elementary School

When we arrived at Divine Mercy Catholic Elementary School, students had
already started to arrive, and buses were parking in front of the main doors of
the school. Fortunately for us, we got inside the school before the flurry of
activity, which was being well managed by a teacher at the main doors. As we approached the main doors of the school, she gave us a wonderfully warm welcome too.

Inside the school, at the office, a kind welcoming administrative assistant
welcomed us. Mr. Tomé was busy in his office, so we went ahead into the
gymnasium. Once we had brought in, all our equipment into the gym, several
students came in to help with our set up. Many helped place the
benches and chairs, while Catalina, grade seven student, and Matthew
and Michael, grade eight students, helped us set up the Proxima, the screen and the
sound. While setting up, Mr. Tomé, the Principal, came into the gym to welcome me and my team. He was a gracious host, making us feel most welcomed, and even offering us coffee or water.

Overall, the set up in the gymnasium went very smoothly with the talented
team assembled in the gym to help us. When I was ready, classes were called
into the gymnasium. One of the few first classes into the gym was my beloved
Ms. Mitchell, grade three / four teacher. When I was a student at Loyola
Catholic Secondary School, she was my grade nine Religion teacher. She was an
amazing teacher. So, I was just overjoyed to see her again. She was also the
first teacher to invite me into a school as a Professional Public Speaker back
in November 2018. Ms. Mitchell was a grade eight teacher at St. Veronica back then. It easy to appreciate and see how she has truly blessed my life on so many opportunities. As her students
sat on the gym floor, she approached me, and gave me the warmest welcome and a hug.
It was a heartwarming moment. All the while, students from other classes continued to populate the gymnasium.

Today, I spoke to students from grade four to eight. Shortly after a really great introduction by Mr. Tomé, I commenced my Motivational Public Speaking presentation on the Relationship with Self and the Virtue of Love to an attentive audience. A question period ensued, kindly facilitated by Mr. Tomé. As students raised their hands, Mr. Tomé approached them with the wireless microphone. I was happy to answer all their questions. With Mr. Tomé’s blessing, we took a group picture too.

Once classes started to leave the gymnasium, Ms. Mitchell and her class approached me. She said she enjoyed my presentation. I even took a picture with her joyful students.

All the while, Catalina, Matthew, and Michael helped to put away all the school technology, I had borrowed for my presentation. They were a terrific trio!

While still in the gym, one of Ms. Mitchell’s students returned to the gym and gave me their envelope of completed Exit Tickets. They were very prompt. I was most grateful.

In fact, once all students at my presentation returned to their classrooms, they completed their Exit Tickets, which are their reflections from my motivational public speaking presentation. Below are excerpts from many of these:

As I walked out of the gymnasium into the hallway, towards the office, I saw Mr. Tomé. I was so happy; he enjoyed my presentation. As recess began, he stepped away to go to the gymnasium where he was facilitating some students play soccer there.

While just outside the office, I saw a couple of teachers, who were present during my presentation. They shared how much they really enjoyed my presentation too. Ms. Rita, an administrative assistant, came out of her office to give me the completed Exit Tickets that had been dropped off already. She was kind and happy to meet me.

Before leaving, I was happy to see Mr. Tomé again. He thanked me for coming to his school. It was truly an exceptionally blessed morning, and I felt honoured to be a guest speaker at Divine Mercy Catholic Elementary School.
