A Beautiful Day at St. Andrew Elementary: Sharing Stories, Faith, and Inspiration
Visiting St. Andrew Elementary School in Orangeville was a truly heartwarming experience—one I will always remember with gratitude. From the moment I arrived, the administrative staff and Vice Principal Mr. Fairclough welcomed my team and me with such warmth and kindness that the entire day unfolded with a sense of calm purpose and joy.
A Seamless Start
Shortly after arriving, Mr. Fairclough guided us to the gymnasium, where everything had already been thoughtfully prepared by Mr. Andretti, the school custodian. The sound system, chairs, and setup were all ready, making it easy for me to settle in and begin testing the audiovisual components of my presentation.
Mr. Fairclough was incredibly supportive—patiently helping me iron out a few technical details and ensuring everything worked perfectly. After a few small adjustments, we were fully prepared to begin the first presentation at 11:00 a.m.
Morning Session: JK to Grade 3
As the younger students began arriving—class by class—they entered quietly, respectfully, and with a gentle energy that filled the gym.
The children listened with wide eyes and open hearts. Their curiosity made the morning especially meaningful. After my presentation, I opened the floor for questions, and with Mr. Fairclough’s gracious support, students introduced themselves by name and grade before asking their thoughtful questions. There were more questions than time, but their eagerness showed how engaged they were and how much they understood that each of us is special and uniquely made by God.
I was also delighted to donate a copy of my children’s book, Micaiah the Brave, which Mr. Fairclough kindly accepted on behalf of the school.
Lunch Time: Conversations That Warmed My Heart
During lunch, several teachers visited me in the gymnasium to share their reflections.
Mr. Furtado, a beloved teacher at the school, thanked me sincerely for my presentation. We connected over our shared inspiration from the Blessed Mother Mary—a moment that felt both meaningful and familiar.
I then enjoyed my own lunch in the gymnasium. Bringing lunch from home, just as I did throughout my school years, made the moment feel nostalgic and comforting.
Soon after, Mr. Ojer, a kindergarten teacher, stopped by to tell me how inspired his students were. His words meant so much to me. Moments later, Ms. Fabiano, also a kindergarten teacher, arrived with a beautiful handmade Thank You card from her students—covered in joyful stickers and filled with love. Their authentic kindness touched me deeply.
I was also visited by Ms. Paton, a grade four teacher and one of my former Erinoakkids Mississauga baseball team coaches. I remembered her fondly—her joyful spirit always made baseball even more fun when I was younger. Seeing her again was such a gift, and she shared how excited her students were for my afternoon presentation.
Afternoon Session: Grades 4 to 8
After lunch, we prepared for the second presentation. The older students entered with the same calm organization, guided by the dedicated staff. Once again, Mr. Fairclough offered a warm introduction that set the tone for a thoughtful and engaging session.
The older students brought a reflective, mature energy. They were eager to connect ideas, ask questions, and truly understand the heart of my message. I felt a genuine connection with them, and their enthusiasm made the presentation come alive. The Q&A session was vibrant, and I appreciated Mr. Fairclough’s continued support.
Afterward, many teachers approached me to express how much the presentation resonated with them. Among them were Madame Felix, the French teacher, Ms. Romasco, the grade eight teacher, and Ms. Paton. Each of them shared how much they enjoyed and appreciated the presentation. Their encouragement made me feel incredibly supported and uplifted.
Before leaving the gym, Mr. Andretti returned to pack away all the equipment I had used. His joyful and kind disposition was a pleasure to witness.
In the Hallways: Kindness Everywhere
As I stepped into the hallway, Mr. Fairclough kindly held the door for me—ever the gentleman. In the main foyer, I met several teachers who shared heartfelt words about how much they enjoyed my presentation, including Ms. Donaldson, Ms. Wilson, and Ms. Lucas.
From the office, Ms. McWilliams, the administrative assistant, had gathered many of the Exit Tickets from both my morning and afternoon presentations. She even made a final call throughout the school to collect any remaining ones. I appreciated her dedication very much—it meant a great deal to me.
Walking through the hallway, I was greeted by many smiling students who waved enthusiastically. Their joy and kindness filled my heart.
Student Reflections: Voices That Touched My Heart
Before leaving St. Andrew, I was handed a stack of Exit Tickets—filled with the students’ immediate thoughts, feelings, and questions. Reading through them later was one of the most moving parts of my day.
Their honesty, curiosity, and compassion reminded me why I share my story in the first place. These reflections came from students across all grades, each one offering a glimpse into how they understood the message of perseverance, kindness, and faith.

What Their Words Revealed
Reading the students’ reflections left me humbled and deeply moved. Their words showed a remarkable level of empathy and insight. Many students recognized the importance of kindness, courage, and perseverance. Others reflected on gratitude, inclusion, and the beauty of asking for help.
Some wondered about my daily life, my challenges, my joys, and my family. Others wondered about their own lives—how they could be kinder, braver, more helpful, or more understanding.
What touched me most was how many students saw themselves in my story. They connected their own challenges, hopes, and questions to the message I shared. Their reflections were not just about me—they were about all of us, and the ways we can lift one another up.
These young hearts reminded me that seeds of compassion grow quickly when they are nurtured with love, faith, and understanding. I will treasure their words always.
A Day Filled with Joy and Purpose
Throughout both sessions, I felt deeply connected to the students. Their openness, curiosity, and kindness made the day incredibly meaningful. The staff’s support and hospitality ensured everything flowed smoothly and beautifully.
I left St. Andrew Elementary feeling profoundly grateful—for the invitation from Ms. Piacente, the school Principal; for the warm welcome and support from Mr. Fairclough; and for the chance to share stories that matter with students who truly listened.
Closing Thoughts
Before leaving, I thanked Mr. Fairclough wholeheartedly for hosting me so graciously during both presentations. His professionalism, kindness, and support made the day exceptional.
St. Andrew Elementary reminded me why these visits are so important. They are not just presentations—they are moments of connection, memory, faith, and inspiration. On this day, everything aligned: the organization, the students, the staff, the spirit of learning, and the authentic kindness that filled every corner of the school.
I will carry this beautiful experience with me always.
